PreSend Translate — Chrome extension

Last updated: 2026-10-29

PreSend Translate puts a small button next to the text field you are focused on. When you use it, the extension translates the text you have typed using an AI service you configure, and writes the translation back into the same box so you can review it before you send the message yourself.

The short version: the only text that ever leaves your device is the text in the input box you chose to translate, and it goes only to the AI endpoint you set up — never to a server operated by us. We do not have a backend, do not run analytics, and do not sell or share your data.

What data is processed

Categories of data the extension handles, and where each one goes.
DataCollected / transmittedWhere it goes
Text of the focused input box (the message, email or comment you are writing) Sent to the AI endpoint you configure Only the third-party AI service you selected, to perform the translation you requested
Authentication information (the API key for your chosen AI service) Stored locally; sent to that same endpoint Sent only to the endpoint the key belongs to, as the request credential
Website content (the text of the single field you act on) Read only on your explicit action Same AI endpoint as above; never read in the background
Settings: source/target language, global on/off default, per-site rules (normalized origins only) Stored locally only Your device (Chrome extension storage); never transmitted

What is not collected

The extension does not collect or transmit:

It reads only the single editable field you act on, and only after you explicitly trigger a translation. It does not scan pages in the background, read incoming messages, or capture surrounding page text. Site rules store normalized origins only — never field values, placeholders, labels, or per-input fingerprints.

Where your data goes

When you translate with an AI service, the text of the focused field (and your API key, as the credential) is sent directly from your browser to the endpoint you configured. The extension does not route this through any server we operate, and it never silently switches to a different provider. If you use Chrome's built-in translation instead, the field text stays on your device.

How data is stored

Your settings, site rules, and AI service configuration (including API keys) are kept in your local Chrome extension storage. They are not synchronized to the cloud by us, not injected into web pages, not included in any export, and not intentionally logged. Local extension storage is convenient but is not a hardware-backed secret vault.

Security note

We strongly recommend using an AI endpoint over HTTPS. If you explicitly configure a remote HTTP endpoint, both your API key and the translated text travel unencrypted and could be read or modified by networks between your browser and that endpoint.

How long data is kept & deletion

The extension keeps your settings and credentials in local storage until you change them. Translated text is not stored by the extension beyond what is written back into your input box. Uninstalling the extension removes all of its local data through Chrome. Any text sent to your chosen AI service is governed by that service's own retention policy, not ours.

Third-party services

PreSend Translate does not include advertising, analytics, or social-media trackers. The only third party involved is the AI service you choose to configure. Your use of that service, and how it handles the text and key you send it, is covered by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
